awakening ---- is the sensory state that takes me from sleep to awareness, or more importantly an interest in something previously unnoticed. 

The process of looking for abstraction is a process of awakening. Tuning the brain to 'see' the image in a new way - moving the head as well as the eye, looking through one eye to obscure the depth of field and focussing more closely at what I would normally ignore. 

I use the camera to freeze the movements of the eye to enable some aspects of the eye/brain interaction to the recorded.
